Printpack Announces Launch of 100% Clean, Renewable Electricity in the Querétaro Facility

November 18, 2021

Clean Energy

Starting this week, the Querétaro facility is supplied with 100% clean, renewable electricity. To accomplish this, Printpack signed a three-year contract with Ammper, an important company in the energy sector. Ammper will be generating enough solar and wind energy to power our plants, and as a result, will also be significantly contributing to Printpack’s sustainability goals.

As part of recent energy reforms in Mexico, companies can procure energy on the wholesale market, whereas in the past, it was through a government-supplied energy company (CFE). The energy will continue to be delivered using the current grid infrastructure, delivering both traditional and the growing renewable energy alternative, our new source (see image below for details). The now open market allowed Printpack to look at other options for energy.

Ammper will complete the utility transition for the Guadalajara facility at the beginning of 2022. With both plants supplied by wind and solar-generated power, this procurement decision results in an 80% reduction in our Total Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions (16,795 metric tons of CO2 equivalent)!
